This is the first Thief mission I've played that felt more like a genuine horror experience, rather than just having scary enemies and a dreadful atmosphere. Part of that is because of a really cool lantern mechanic, which allows you to give light to surrounding areas. In return, you become just as visible for the enemies. Another part that con...

There's nothing particular here to rant or rave about. The city is flat and uninteresting, not unlike the story. One plus: if you happen to alert a guard, you can hide your character in a corner and go walk the dog, mow the lawn, compose a light opera, etc., while you're waiting for the NPC(s) to settle down. Time-saver.

Another great city mission, this time done by Sensut. It isn't as complex as some more famous city missions, but after playing Being Thief 2, I feel like that's probably a good thing. Large levels don't seem to be Sensut's strong suite. In Being Thief, a much smaller mission than its sequel, Sensut's strengths become much more apparent: setting...

Traversel doesn't flow well at times (lots of times where you have to go round a large part of the map to get to a nearby building), there's forced item progression (worse than a keyhunt, I actually like keyhunts) with a diary that only appears if you follow the author's very specific chain of events in his specific order, and there's just so l...

At the moment I have 4 categories for missions. 1. Better than the developers were able to do. 2. Good enough and will play again. 3. Bad mission overall and don't want to make the mistake of trying to play it again, and 4... I pray the author steps on Legos covered with salted briars.
This mission fits into the 2nd category... I woul...

This one has a slow start. When first breaking out of your cell it feels like the guard pathing and lighting is another gimmick to make the mission feel harder than it is. But a little patience and the level breaks out and does some interesting things. One the down side I found I was save scumming to avoid gotchas even though the gotchas, in...

It's a small city type mission with lots to explore. The downside is that many details are absent. Doors to un-built areas aren't even fake doors, they are just wooden textures recessed into a brick hole.
The bafford scepter is already infamous due to it being both the first mission of the first Thief game, but it's also the demo. So if...

The Violent End of Duncan Malveine contains some novel elements: a randomized objective/clues, a collecting aspect, and guards that can switch between bow/sword at will. Of these three, the last one was probably the one that I liked the most, even though it's the most understated aspect of the mission. Why is that?
In my opinion, you'd rathe...

Near its start, one readable said "30/03//386". I also read the name "Truart". I immediately thought: ah okay, so this takes place shortly before Thief 2 itself.
You can throw all that connecting out of the window straight away.
This mission defies logic, especially in the storytelling department. And that's what makes it shine. It's li...

The atmosphere, setting, enemy and level design remind me a lot of Dark Souls (not the difficulty or the combat, needless to say). The map layout is really well-done, often making you search for points that bring you deeper into the strongholds of the three brothers.
The atmosphere is amazing, with a big contributor to that being the enemie...

The majority of this mission is in pitch black. It's not that the author did a bad job of lighting, its that they intentionally hid things in the total blackness.
Blackness isn't ambiance, it's a way to tell your potential fans to take a hike, you don't really want them to play your mission. Required gold and access to the main quest ite...

This has a lot of things going for it. Great architecture that keeps you moving across a decent sized map with unique areas that help you to not get lost.
The use of tile flooring and grates are intentional for gameplay purposes and don't sprawl over the entire earth as a gotcha that many other authors employ.
There are multiple paths...

Buggy, overly-complicated, needlessly-obscure and just generally annoying. 8.4 stars is pure hype.

This was a good mission otherwise ruined by a few major problems.
First we have the typical world building with no backdrop or hiding the fact that the square room brush begins HERE! A massive blob of water free floats into either a brick wall when its supposed to be the ocean or an infinite sky. You can climb out of the world in a few pla...

As most of the demos, this is great for mission authors but offers little to mission fans. Completeable in a minute with messy terrain brushes, misplaced textures, wrong use of lighting, and a broken objective (again just my first 60 second observations).
Still, if you want to load up a mission in dromed to see some of the basics, this on...

To preface, I don't think length equals depth. A mission can be short and still dig deep. For example, simply adding some more readables could provide background information about Raputo, shady business dealings, connections with other gangs/City Wardens etc. Double or Quits doesn't really do that. The briefing is the only thing you really read...
