info ANMERKUNGEN:     - This is a puzzle-focused mission with somewhat linear progression. In many ways it doesn't play
like a standard Thief mission.
- The mission is not ghostable.
- This mission has been designed with a large percentage of stock resources and may look weird or
broken if you use a texture pack.
- Installs and runs through FMSel and AngelLoader. Other loaders have not been tested and are used
at your own risk. Do not use Darkloader, it is outdated and unsupported.
- Requires New Dark version 1.27 or higher.
- New mantle should be turned ON. It should be set by fm.cfg but if you get stuck somewhere, it's
worth checking this setting in your cam_ext.cfg.

Einweisung

I was enjoying a quiet drink at the Crippled Burrick, when a commotion outside sobered me up fast.
At first I thought the Watch were there in force to arrest me, but as I quickly slipped out the
back I realised there was a fight going on that had nothing to do with me.

I watched from the shadows and saw that the Watch had finally caught up to the sorceror Malazar.
He put up a good fight, turning several of the watchmen into oily smears on the pavement before
they overwhelmed him. His magic might have been impressive, but he was only human after all, and
the heft of a blade did for him just like anyone else.

Before the Watch hauled the body off, I slipped through unseen and relieved him of the key to his
tower. Malazar's tower has long been infamous among those in my profession for the huge power
crystal (the source of his arcane power) that floats above the tower's balcony, visible to any who
approach. In the past, no-one has ever managed to steal it and live to tell the tale. Now that the
sorceror is dead, it should be a trivial task to climb the tower and nab the gem. It's got to be
worth a fortune, quite apart from any magical properties it may possess.

First of, this is not a traditional sneaking mission, but more focused on puzzles to get around. I am not a big puzzle head, but found it to be creative and fun enough outcomes to keep going even when it took me a bit to understand what was needed.

Probably one of my favourite missions so far.

Unlike others who seemed to have found the puzzles easy, I found them to be at a good level - not too hard but definitely not too easy. And just when you think you've got to the end, something else crops up!

Beautiful map set in a bizarre and, as the title says, inscrutable mage tower, which is full of surprises. But not just is the map good to behold, the gameplay itself is fun, the map design is consistent, and the puzzles are intuitive.

Beautiful graphics, it felt you were really there. Such attention to detail made the FM special.
The whole idea is a very clever take on Thief. Puzzles are my thing, so I found it great fun.
I didn't find the gameplay too challenging, and difficulty was consistent all the way through.

This mission mostly plays like a giant escape room. There are technically guards but they are easy to avoid (or latter on lock into rooms to keep them out of your way). This is the first time I played FM and it was actually pretty nice. The mission reminds me resident evil games all levels are connected, same vibe, lack of resources.
But I dont really get the story, mage was killed in tavern by accident? It's a bit strange that mage was in crowded place and was killed so simply and what he was doing in taver...

This is a wonderful fan mission. The story is simple: Garrett has to break into a sorcerer's tower and steal his magical crystal. I can highly recommend "Malazar's Inscrutable Tower" to those who like puzzles, but even those who have other preferences will probably still enjoy it, because the mission does not contain any obscure riddles to solve...
