Briefing

During your last job you and your so called partner dressed as merchants made way into the temple to liberate the rosary beads of St Wrichards. While escaping your clumsey partner steped on an alarm plate. As punshiment you are both condemened to die in the Bear Pits equipted with only your blackjack. Escape and loot. Make it to the tower gates to complete.

As one of earliest FMs, it tries a bunch of interesting things, mostly fights between NPCs, that can be used to your advantage. It's boxy, glitchy as hell and just very sketchy overall. Environments don't make much sense. T-posing statues etc. And the game actually glitched on me and failed to register that I found a sword. So I couldn't finish ...

I didn't really like this mission.

I think the idea is cool, having AI fight each other, hunting for gear, having some sort of high-tension escape. The problem lies in the lack of polish and overall general feeling of someone who knows what they WANT to do, but not being 100% sure how to achieve it.

Your main objective is to find a sword, ...

It's actually fairly ambitious for the time, it's the first ever mission to contain monsters (at least that's been remembered), contains a big fight between NPCs. It even has an attempt at ambient sounds.

It also has floating carpets you must jump on to gain the benefit, lots of marble flooring, a layout that makes no sense, and T-posing stat...

Time has not been kind to fan-missions from 1999. Sure, there are some good ones such as: "Autumn in Lampfire Hills" and "Bloodstone Prison", but this is also the year that gave us some of the worst of all time, such as "Koobze". In comparison, "Escape: The Bear Pits" fare a lot better. This is not a good fan-mission, but it doesn't make me want...
