I do find it interesting how widely-loathed Kidnap is in contrast to how many FMs use arguably its most tedious gimmick as climax

Great middle-ground gameplay here, on one pole you are free to roam the city as you like causing as much havoc to your heart's content, and on the other, where you have to hunker down and really pay attention and watch your step when you reach the mansion that acts a sort of centerpiece to the whole thing. I've become a fan of this "doomed expedition" genre of FM. Just a bunch of hopeless saps walking about while you sneak past and loot what they've missed and maybe lure some monsters from crypts thought sealed.

Very well done mission. It has a great flow, which is what I like most in Thief missions. Any snags along the way were typical skill issues on my part (forgetting to use a key for that locked door I just walked past, for instance) and the map is surprisingly easy to navigate despite the decrepit nooks and crannies the setting demands.
