The life of a watchman is not that easy as some people might think. I'm sick and tired of the city watch service. I heard by hazard that the Barington museum was about to hire a night watch, five days per week, six hours of night shift, all in all under an attractive salary. When I introduced myself they told me that this would be a safe job and there would be no reason to worry about it. They asked me if I would be able to do some minor maintenance works and some cleaning work, too. That sounded a little bit strange to me but they offered an additional payment so I agreed to it. Finally they handed a torch and a badge of office over to me. The question arised whether there were any weapons but they told me that the museum has an armory but weapons must not be used inside because of the danger of damaging exibits. Any use of weapons would mean an immediate dismissal. They explained that the Mechanists had installed a camera system which would allow me to observe the rooms, besides there had been nearly no burglaries in this part of town during the last time. I had a bad feeling about it but didn't want to make a bad impression - thats why I'll report for duty tonight.
