I never got to experience light version of this mission, because I always try to find and explore everything if a mission is good. This is a good mission so I found everything I could find (including allegedly optional goals).
You start in a cell without equipment and need to build up your arsenal as you try to get out. Because of this, the early parts are the most challenging (at least on expert). Not only you can't be seen (instant game over), you have nothing on you and you need to navigate tight rooms and corridors. it can be a little frustrating since guard routes feel like they're randomized and plus they sometimes stand and stare into infinity for long periods of time.
Once you get your gear, frustrations don't cease, since sometimes the mission glitches and doesn't let you knock out a guard without a game over, as the game register that you were seen. Sometimes I had to ghost a guard or delete him with a gas arrow, so I don't get a game over.
Yet, game design is rather strong overall with some interesting moments like sifting through books to find the right tome. And a few nice secrets. Hiding from guards in early parts of the mission is tight as well. This mission is worth checking out. It aged gracefully.
