"Ambush!" sure isn't as bad as the similarly titled "Escape!" The level has a lot more detail, isn't as cramped, and the first half (getting to Garrett's home) actually works just fine. The few citizens out there at night talk about things, adding a bit more life. Sneaking past the guards is fun.
However, when Garrett reaches his home, he has to go all the way back (and some more). This time, the amount of guards feels like it has been tripled. They also patrol a lot more. Because of the amount of guards, sometimes you see what's basically a caterpillar of guards patrolling around. In practice, this means that you can no longer really sneak past. Instead, you have to wait a lot. When you have waited a lot, you have to wait more, because the next guard caterpillar comes just around the corner when the last one has passed. After that, you wait more. Making noise using arrows works... sometimes. I've had a guard ignore an arrow fired straight at the wall next to him. Another guard, about ten meters away, did hear the arrow. So now I had two guards to deal with instead of one.
When you get spotted, which is pretty much a given if you don't save scum or reload each time something tense happens, you have few places to flee to. This is because of the lack of verticality in this mission. Oftentimes, you get chased through a quarter of the map by a guard. When you've finally got rid of them, you have to find your way back to where you were. This is just annoying.
A mixed bag. I lean towards saying the negatives outweigh the positives.
