This campaign is from 2005, I think, so I leave my thoughts for those like me who come to Thief late and are enjoying playing through fan missions. It is based on some notes from 2022, so some details might be a bit off.
First off: I had a great time playing for the most part and pushed through the big maps because I wanted to see the end. The author is truly very talented, and even though I did not enjoy some aspects of this fan mission, I think I would have enjoyed the mission less had I not been able to experience the choices made and what was tried out. It is very ambitious and pushes the game engine to really do some crazy stuff. Timey-wimey plot as well, which is hard to pull through, so I give credit for committing to that.
The story is very bleak at times, and I think this story was motivated by a personal loss, and I respect the need to work that out through creation.
So, without ending on a negative note, I would say that this is a mission everyone should give a try, but I will give some points I reacted to:
I was not entirely convinced of the choices Garrett makes in the story, which end up on the side of "neutral good" for me, when the furthest I can stretch his morality is to "chaotic good," so to speak.
There are also some parts of the map that are so big they feel a bit empty, like the Enterprise mission and space caves (but I was still motivated to push through).
I experienced some glitches that were frustrating, but pushing the engine to do stuff it is not supposed to is impressive in itself. I suppose this could also be on my modern hardware? Timed poison worked well and was interesting, so changing the game mechanics was a lot of fun when it worked, but as I said, frustrating when it did not.
