I'm writing this right after finishing this FM, and I'm gonna have to chill for a few hours, to let my mind wear off and relax. That's how this FM wore me out. It's HUGE, GARGANTUOUS. It's like The Sword OM, but made into a City mission 2 times as big as Life of the Party OM or Down in the Bonehoard OM. It's big, too god damn big. It was scary, just seeing the amount of buildings, passageways, entry points. You know that feeling? Where you see more than 5 ways to go on, and you haven't even completed ONE objective? And your loot is about 25% of the required loot? Yeah, I panicked. I just tried very much to finish main objectives, get the remaining loot, and finish the mission, the absolute required minimum.
The Sword but a whole huge City. What does it mean? It means great Pagan atmosphere, full of magic elements, creepy ambient, wild secrets and non-regular way of progression through the mission. Add a lot of undeads (no zombies, only haunts), and you get Mysteries of Tolham. Mission too big, too ambitious, and too fragmented to be an actual good experience to play. It is not, it's a chore to play, and a wonder to hear, see, and observe. Gameplay-wise, it's not too good, definitely not too good. Main objectives are as far from each other as possible, including several levels of difference when it comes to verticality. Quite a few optional objectives, thankfully optional. Nearly 9k loot, of which I had enough mental strength to gather nearly 4k. Yep, I missed about 60% of the overall loot... while Hard requires 3k only. I guess... that's good, that the % required for completion is really low? Yeah, I'll call that a positive.
So, summary - atmosphere great, story... well not much of story here really, I don't believe there is even one "main" story here, it's all basically just flavour and mostly irrelevant to what you're doing, with exception of a few obvious hints of where the target crystals are. Just go in, take 3x crystals, perhaps something more optionally, go out. Nothing but.
Gameplay? Yeah, not feeling it. Too big for its own good, a giant on clay legs. If you're fan of exploration for the sake of exploration itself, and not really into anything deeper story-wise, just want to enter every single path and door, then go on - this one's for you. For something more akin to OMs, with story playing a much bigger role, and exploration as more of an added extra, this ain't it.
7,5-8/10, will rate it as 8/10 here, then.
