Let's repeat all that has been said about TBP in other reviews; It's an immense campaign (ten missions), all of which are meticulously detailed with architecture and build quality that will never be surpassed. I spent at least some of the time just looking at the incredible views. The time, energy and effort that went into this campaign is obvious for all to see, and our appreciation to the team should reflect that work.
The team labelled TBP as a love letter to Thief: The Dark Project, and it's pretty clear that they followed a very similar format; There's a "Sword" mission, a Hammerite Temple, a descent into a, a,.....Bonehoard? A "Mages Tower" and the finale could have been reskinned from "The Maw".
To be honest, all of the missions are much, much bigger than the originals, bearing in mind LGS were restricted by the GPU's of the 90's.
Having said that, despite the beautiful and immense views some of the missions felt they were bigger just for the sake of being bigger, and my attention waned a few times. I like to start and finish a mission in one go, and TBP made that a chore sometimes. I know that some of the OG's prefer longer missions but I feel there should be a balance.
Yet more evidence of the amount of work put in by the team was evident in custom characters throughout the game. Within seconds of starting Mission 1 I stopped and stared (literally open-mouthed) as one walked by. Later, custom enemies make appearances, yet are rarely used more than once. Genius.
The plot is actually a weak point, and it really only progresses mid campaign, then slows again and limps toward the finale, which is another weak point unfortunately.
Bugs do exist (Shock!) I got stuck in a few places, but in missions of this size I wouldn't expect a Thief game to be any different. One pretty major bug exists in Mission 9. It affected me and a few others, all I can say is save early and often, a recent save game might save you hours of repeated exploring.
Overall it was a great experience, and I will probably replay it in the future. It's not perfect, but it's worth playing for the visuals alone and should be on everyone's playlist.
Well done and thanks to everyone involved.
