A sequel to an FM I really enjoyed, Lord Edmund Entertains!, in which Garrett does a bit of tomb robbing in order to find out more about the evil idol he stole earlier. It's a fairly competent mission, sporting a variety of locations, a few interesting puzzles and some nice set pieces. Yet...it really doesn't live up to its' predecessor.
Edmund's manor felt unique in structure; surprises and quality texture/brush works around every corner and a solid and intriguing story to boot. This one barely has one story related readable, with the rest being 4th wall breaking jokes or filler. The first church/temple looks pretty good, but as soon as you go past the objective crypt the mission starts stagnating a bit. You'll be going through barren samey textured blocky corridors and sewers, none of which come close to design of LEE!. The difficulty selection made it seem that Diabolical will be extremely challenging, but nothing of the sort happened. It plays like a normal mission on Expert with an extra objective. There aren't any ambient sounds whatsoever with every area being completely silent. Instead of the areas you traverse being unique experiences, it all just feels...really unfocused and bland since there's a lack of serious readables in most of them.
It's still a really good mission, one of the better early era FMs, but I suppose I expected something more from a sequel to one of my favorites. It will certainly entertain you enough to play through it...but not is not as entertaining as Lord Edmund.
