This mission honestly feels like it's been made by two different authors. One refined gentleman did the architecture, layout, ambiance and visuals while their pet chimp focused on the gameplay. But lets start with the positives: The map looks pretty good. There's a bit of city to explore, a hammerite temple, an inn and finally a full-on ship docked at the harbor. The author has clearly put a lot of time in making these things look appealing to the eye and has moved on from the basic design shown in their first mission. The ambiance is alright and the few readables I found were serviceable, but suffer from slight broken english which can obviously be forgiven since they're french. The amount of experimental and unique stuff to see here is surprising for an early FM such as this.
And now for the bad...oh boy. The gameplay is awful, full stop. I understand the author wanted this to be difficult, but there's difficult and there's bordering on cruel and unfair. This borders on cruel and unfair. Special rules are added which prevent Garrett from knocking out women, priests and hammer novices. This is of course beyond annoying because when I got seen by a novice he's proceeded to run a marathon across the map to alert the guards next to the ship. The hammer temple is chock full of tile flooring with guards around every corner along with priests and novices to avoid. And of course none of this is made easier by the fact that this is another mission with zero ambient lighting. Other reviewers have said that the objective hammer needs to be manually carried in your hands, but mine went into my inventory. I assume it's a .dml fix courtesy of TFix, but I'm not sure. I can only feel sorry for them as that sounds absolutely nightmareish with everything else going on in the mission.
So the the temple isn't very fun, but what about the ship? Somehow even worse. I managed to sneak into the merchant's quarters and yoink the rosary I needed. But apparently the jewelry box was rigged and an alarm immediately starts blaring once I took it. There's no way to circumvent the alarm, as far as I'm aware. After that I took a step outside and noticed the sheer amount of guards that were actually on the ship. Like termites they ascended and descended onto the top deck to fight me, several being archers who started sniping me from the crows' nest or the stairs. It is at this point that I just went Rambo and started killing them all. I've already run out non-lethal tools back at the temple since the hallways there are too tight to navigate so I was left with little choice. About 15 or so men had to die for a stupid rosary that night. And the slaughter didn't stop there since more guards kept coming from the streets now, courtesy of the hammerite novice from the temple who's decided to act like a hemorrhoid and make my experience as painful as possible while probably laughing to himself knowing too well that Garrett is too honorable to knock him out. (Seriously, is Garrett unable to knock them out because he's religious now or what? Why is he robbing them then???) Only once the docks and streets of the city were painted red from the dozens of corpses left behind did my Garrett return to Cutty and finished the job. What a day...
All in all; no. I don't recommend this. It's difficult for the sake of being difficult to an utmost annoying degree which will only end in frustration. Maybe boot it up and have a look around, but that's the extent of what your playtime with this should be. Don't torture yourself like I did...
