A Midsummer Night`s Heist by Rotten Burrick of a Master, Thief 2
The Perdurance by Skejven, Thief 2
Sinister Night by Terra, Thief 2
The Turning of the Leaves by nicked, Thief 2

Fall 2020 Thief FM Contest

A new fan mission contest has been announced. Organised on TTLG by Brethren, the contest will allow to use any kind of resource, but will limit mission 3D space to one million in-game units. In effect, this will be a contest of rather small, but hopefully detailed and diverse missions.

Brethren gave some examples of good quality missions that do not exceed the size of one million units (we added links, so that you can check them while the current contest is running):

For inspiration, you might want to take a look at some of the standout missions from previous contests. All of the missions listed below will fit into the space allowed for this contest, most with plenty of room to spare.

Into The Maelstrom by Morrgan/Vigil
The Tower by Lady Rowena
Temple of the Tides by Nameless Voice
The Hightowne Museum by Spitter
The Relic by Timon
Ashes and Dust by Random Taffer
The Affairs of Wizards by Nameless Voice
Old Comrades, Old Debts by Bukary
Deceptive Perception by William The Taffer
The Burrick’s Head Inn by Yandros
Keyhunt by Eshaktaar
The Night Shift by Ottoj55

The contest allows missions for Thief 1, Thief Gold and Thief 2.

For this contest, voting will be based on three categories:

1) Best use of space
2) Design/Construction
3) Atmosphere/Story.

New Thief: The Dark Project Unofficial Bugfixing Patch

AntiMatter_16 (AM16) released another bugfixing patch, this time for TDP. The author claims he "spent over a thousand hours fixing and improving the missions".

AM16 carefully played all TDP original missions and applied both visual and game mechanics fixes. These include:

  • adjusting texture alignments,
  • fixings room brushes,
  • optimizing terrain,
  • minor visual enhancements,
  • broken content and conversations fixes,
  • distant building viewing limitations removal

I did not keep a changelog, as it would be tens of thousands of items long, and would have just substantially slowed down progress.

says the author himself.

AM16 also mentioned that all changes combined with the architecture being now visible from distance makes together a spectacular effect.

Many players admit that this is a great opportunity to play the entire game once again.

You can play the missions using any FM loader.

The Art behind Thief

Inside At Last is the "one and only" Thief related podcast, run by Nex, Lord Soth and Supremcee.

The podcast started in November 2019. Since then, we were able to meet different Thief players, creators and, most of all, some important personalities. Purah (YouTube Link) or ... Stephen Russell (YouTube Link), to name two.

In this episode, Supremcee is joined by Daniel Thron, who had a major role in the creation process of the art for the original Thief Games. "Also I was joined by the amazing, Thief inspired artist, Dominus and Skacky who added so many questions and material to the discussion." - we read in the episode description.

Dominus is a very talented artist. Some of his works are used here as Thief Guild website background (see front page footer). Recently, his contribution to upcoming campaign, The Black Parade, was revealed with a fantastic poster. Skacky, a well-known FM creator that needs no introduction, is the lead builder of this huge 10 extensive missions project. See the published poster, as well as other artworks in original post on TTLG here.

You can listen to the episode above, or click here.

Celebration of Pilgrims

Today TTLG contest organizers published the final results of Thief 2 20th Anniversary Contest.

Congrats to marbleman and Random_Taffer for taking first place!

See detailed results below or check the sorted list of missions here on the portal.

Since the contest is closed, we made Thief Guild ratings visible, too, so it is possible to check the individual ratings or sort with other averages on the portal.

Again, to all contestants, a big thanks to you all for all your missions!

Thief 2: The Metal Age 20th Anniversary Contest

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of Thief 2: The Metal Age, TTLG organized a contest where participants had one year to build one or more missions in the style of the original game and using mostly stock assets.

There are 8 missions now, but we should expect the list to be updated with about 3 or more entries, in next few days.

UPDATE: In the end, 11 missions were submitted.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the original deadline was relaxed by a few days to give those struggling to meet it a little extra time. We have 8 stellar missions being released today, with several more expected in the next four days (likely 3 more, barring any surprise entries).

says Yandros, one of the two organizers - the other one being skacky.

The official download of the missions is provided by Brethren and can be found here with a mirror here.

IMPORTANT: You have to update to T2Fix 1.27b or later and run the missions using NewDarkloader, AngelLoader or FMSel. If you update using T2Fix, it is recommended to disable all optional features.

You should also disable/uninstall all higher quality 3D model packs and HD textures

Check the original post releasing all the missions here!

Seeing as this is a contest, you taffers get to vote for your favorite mission. The voting period starts on Saturday, Mar 28 and will last until June 28, 2020. Mission voting is presented as 3 categories worth 10 points each — Atmosphere, Gameplay and Story - or a general score of 30 without categories. Voters can choose either system to score missions. Be advised that judges may deduct up to 5 points per submission if contest rules were broken.

Voting will start on Mar 28, 2020 and a link to the voting page will be posted in above post and on Thief Guild portal.

Missions sorted out

Having more and more active users, especially those who rate missions, we had no other choice and made some useful improvements. Taking into account your suggestions, we've added sort by feature to fan mission page. You can now sort missions by date, rating and popularity!

The user profile page has updates, too. As many of you said, the mission rating archive is not as useful as it could. For this reason you can now also sort your own ratings, and other people ratings, by date and best/worst. You can also limit the rating page to a selected game, in case you are currently focused on missions for a specific platform only.

We've also added a nice looking mission rating histogram to your profile pages :) Histograms are a source of different kinds of useful information. You can for example guess someone's taste a bit, by taking a look on the distribution of their ratings. Often two people have different taste if the percentage of 1/10 ratings is different between both of them. But that is not always the case. A collection of ratings with a majority of 8/10 and above may mean that someone played the most popular titles only. But it may also mean that someone's just started discovering the world of fan missions, not knowing the best titles yet. Histogram is just a useful helper statistic, which, together with a list of titles, can tell something more about the player. The chart limits itself to a selected game, when a game filter is chosen on the ratings page.

Let's keep filling this library of mission ratings and reviews by deciding on future updates together.

Thief: The Dark Project 20th Anniversary Contest Results

Week ago, TDP 20th Anniversary Contest results were posted on TTLG. We updated the missions with ranking, so that you can choose which mission to play next, if you missed to play them during the voting period. Check the sorted list here!

Congratulations to the top 3 missions that won the hearts of the players!

1. The Scarlet Cascabel
2. Lost Among the Forsaken
3. The Sound of a Burrick in a Room

Besides of that, we think more than half of the missions truly follow the spirit of Thief: The Dark Project. After all, if you are able, we recommend you to play all 23. Each single mission is a real tribute to the 20 years old game about the Master Thief.

Thief: The Dark Project 20th Anniversary

On November 30th, we celebrated Thief: The Dark Project 20th release anniversary. On this occasion TTLG Forums published TDP 20th Anniversary Contest missions. You can check all 23 missions here. Whenever you finish any mission, don't forget to rate it on the official contest voting page! (Click "Vote here!" on fan mission page on our portal - note that TTLG Forums login will be required!)

23 fan missions is a big number. Here in Thief Guild Team we still didn't finished playing all of them! If you really want to rate every single mission, there is still time. You can take your time and enjoy playing fan missions with no rush until March 1st, 2019. After this day the voting will be closed.

Holidays time is gone. For those who hadn't enough of it, we tagged all Holidays themed fan missions and Winter/Snow related missions.

We tried to label all missions we remember. If you see anything missing, feel free to add it via our change suggestions submission system!

Happy New Year and Happy Taffing!

The Guild

Last weekend we were quite busy. We already have more than 10 registered users! Thank You all so much for Your interest in website use and willing to help with its development! Most of You are just regular users, but we already have a few fan mission authors! You can find them by checking out the Most Recent Members section - the accounts that are confirmed by e-mail or by forum have this little blue glyph of "official creator account". We will be testing the fan mission management features with those taffers! Available soon!

Now regarding us, we worked on the website a lot. Our website runs in English and Polish language from the very beginning. Now, to reach more fan mission players, we work on the Russian language too! It should be available quite soon. For the features, the website has been improved a bit since the last time we write here. Now the user profiles are more descriptive - you can see latest ratings, comments and published change suggestions. Stay tuned - the number of functions on the profile page will grow soon! As a user you can decide which of these are visible on your profile to the public, by visiting the profile settings.

By rating fan missions and improving their descriptions you actually help us to find out which of them are the most important. This results in figuring out which database entries need to be improved in the first step - we will provide a full description of such missions as soon as possible, we promise!

Thank You for being with us and for giving us the reason to have quite a nice party last weekend!

Konrad , Kiniova and Kretowski

Registration is now open!

We are proud to announce that you are now able to join us and be one of the Thief Guild members!

Since quite a long time we work on the website as a team of a few people. Now you are able to join us and help us to shape the future of the fan mission database.

With an user account you are able to:

  • suggest changes in fan mission directory on a wiki basis
  • add new information to fan mission directory, also, on a wiki basis
  • comment, review and discuss other fan mission related topics

and last but not least

  • you are able to rate the missions in one place.

Knowing which mission was already played and which of them were the most fun is sometimes very important. Especially when you didn't played any mission for a long time and want to go back and play with these priceless artifacts once again!

We know how important it is, that's why plan to add more features allowing you to review fan missions better, group them however you like and share more gameplay with other players.

Come and be a member of the guild where both creators and players share the same objective: the best missions for the World's Greatest Thief.

Stream Robots Invasion

It has been a long time since the last update on our website. This is because two things: 1. I don't really have much time for website administration lately and 2. when I work on Thief Guild, I spend my time on developing new features. Some of them take really too much time. Speaking of which, as promised, here is a new exciting feature!

Let me introduce you Stream Robots. They are pretty like the steam robots from Thief II: The Metal Age, but instead of consuming steam, they feed on different streams and gather useful data for us.

The first Stream Robot which already did his first job is Lord Lockpick. He is just a regular robot, checking out most important websites in our network. After visiting a page, he will extract important data from it and store into our database. Don't worry, he will not take over our site. He will just be, in some cases, more useful than a few administrators. He will take care of missing data, like fanmission download links, which is quite popular problem in our database right now.

Konrad

Gathering at the Bar

We are happy to inform you that Thief Guild Team had a very nice intimate meeting with two other Polish fandom network contributors - we met with SPIDIvonMARDER, a moderator of Polish Thief Forum and Dziarsky, an administrator of Polish Thief Portal. It's not easy to meet when one group lives in far northern Poland and the other group in far southern side of the country - but we show that it is possible! The gathering took place in a cozy bar in the heart of Poland - in Warsaw. We had a good beer, good laugh and a good talk about Thief series and related games. We all unanimously agreed that the Polish fandom scene consists of many commited and talented individuals.

On ThiefGuild.com, we want to give various tools that will allow you to help the fanmission community stay well-informed and to present your own works.

Stay tuned for upcoming functionality updates on our website! Now you can subscribe us via ATOM and RSS

You can also subscribe fanmission releases separately: ATOM, RSS.

PS. News title relates to small fan mission Gathering at the Bar :) The mission is an exceptional example of modding as it is available for both platforms: TDP oraz TMA, which we also present with links between these two entries. TMA version was made by conversion.

PPS. Yes, Gathering at the Bar authors are also co-authors of CoSaS 1: Gathering at the Inn.

Thief Guild as a New Mission

We want to make the fanmission information more accessible and transparent, so that both raw data and gaming experience can be stored and shared in a fandom community driven database.

It is already two decades of strong and active community of players of Thief game series. During that entire time, we shown that we want more and more cult and iconic stealth gameplay experience. We also shown we are able to make such experience possible, too. Regardless if we talk about the classic Thief series fanmissions or completely fan-made standalone Thief-inspired game: The Dark Mod - the community of modders created a large number of high quality playable content ... and things are not planning to be changed, it seems.

Seeing what we already have and thinking about what is yet to come, we give you ThiefGuild.com and aim to organize existing content and plan to make future content even more organized. Our community mission will be to help others find out more about fanmissions in accessible and convenient way. And our mission has a few objectives.

The first of our goals is to provide a basic directory of all existing fanmissions. We trust we can achieve that with your help, by hosting for you a wiki-like system, which allows you and us to work together on our database and collaboratively take care of the quality of its content. Taking into account diversified taste of the players, we organize fanmissions by genre and provide to you a possibility to rate and review them, so that other players could find the best items even faster.

But this is only a beginning of a very long edu... well, we have a lot of ideas and can not wait to bring them all to life as fast as we can! However let's proceed step by step and think about our distant goals, keeping in mind that a twist plot may sometimes happen. We know it is like on the picture attached to this article - it is a beginning of a new regular mission, but who knows how plot will develop after our first goals are finished? We trust, however, we are about to grab plenty of loot together.

Please do not confuse Thief Guild with an original mission Thieves Guild, provided to you in Thief Gold expansion pack. Our guild is focused on a single thief only - the one, everybody is changing into each time we begin a new mission.
