@Lord Taffer: I think that the question of the AI comparison rather falls into the perception of the reader. I'm not anti-AI, by the way - so much so, that I even forgot that someone could be, and interpret that part completely offensively. I do feel like that the mission, while very well implemented, has this aspect of an "uncanny consciousness" if that makes sense. This is pretty much connected to how I found it very intriguing the way you went from your first mission to this one. The autho...
@trefoilknot: You mean what do I expect from posting a sarcastic comment targeting a - to word it politely - head scratching aspect of a review? I suspect that both of our questions are rethoric.
By the way, I actually adore quite a lot when someone goes for full enthusiasm towards an fm. If Mefix really loves Tolham and wants to support the author, then sure, cool - can get behind that. Unfortunately the review has cringe white knighting aspects trying to protect Tolham from... I'm not e...
What the hell are you talking about? Seriously.
Look man, I'm really sorry if you cannot sleep at night, because I said something about this mission you cannot process mentally (for whatever reasons I'm not even sure I wanna know). But going this deep into nonsene is not necessary. You are one click away from finding out I've rated more than 100 missions on the website and my ratings are usually positive. Not even mentioning how many times I've supported beginner authors first attempt in my ...
The very funny thing is I called the misson imaginative in the title of my review, and even said "the atmosphere is pretty unique". Strange, because if you read the AI "comparison" you had to read the rest of it as well.
Almost seems like saying anything, but borderline delusional level of praise about this mission is a total crime (regardless of how much stuff you praise at the same time). If it's because my final rating is not visible (yet), I gave the mission an '8' by the way, for it b...
I'm really glad you've opened our eyes, this mission is indeed a completely different subgenre that has absolutely never been done before. No matter how hard I try, I just... really can't think of any other mission that is set in a city section with optional hidden areas, occasional supernatural elements, lots of loot we can collect, and a vertically rich, non-linear, open design that supports the player's urge to explore all this.
Hm anyway, I wonder how we should call this brand new subg...
@Thirteen1355: There is a pretty much hidden, optional area with a lot of loot. You'll find at least 1k worth of loot there if not more.
SPOILER: you can enter it by shooting a rope arrow through a hole, and then finding a very long ladder. It's a spooky area, and unless I missed some readable(s) mentioning it, it doesn't have anything to do with the rest of the mission, so it's pretty easy to accidentally skip.
I don't know about the 4-5 hours playtime, but I've played the mission on Normal and yeah, it took me ~2 hours (though technically I could finish it sooner, I just tried to explore optional areas), so with the additional objectives I can imagine that estimation is correct. The mission perhaps relies on the player collecting the scattered loot a bit too much.
I'm not sure what kind of correlation could be between the release of TDP and the increasing amounf of ratings Into The Odd has, but I've seen it being mentioned quite often whenever a new player dropped into the community and asked about cool fan missions they can play. Also, Into The Odd has an easily to remember title and screenshots featuring daylight sections - which the majority of fan missions don't have.
Just my guesses.
Either way, it's a cool milestone!
